About Casa Corazon de Leon
Casa Corazon de Leon, a grand old 3-bedroom villa that has just been completely renovated and furnished, is located in the heart of the historic Centro in the greenest part of town. Yet because it sits at the end of a less-traveled street, it possesses sublime quiet and serene vistas not common to other inner-city properties. Filled with antiques and fine artwork and featuring lovely outdoor spaces both front and back, this gracious home is a perfect luxury hideaway for the most discriminating travelers to San Miguel.
From the street, you enter the property through an open foyer and descend grand stone steps into the entry patio and garden, with stone bench seating and a table for sunny breakfasts al fresco. On this level, you find the main rooms of the house: an elegant great room encompassing both living room and dining area with a high vaulted ceiling, limestone fireplace and "forever views" out across town and countryside. A modern cook's kitchen can be opened up into this room as well, or closed off for privacy. A side sitting room serves as a cozy den with its stone fireplace and lovely tiled bathroom. The central open hallway leads from the front door alongside the great room and out to a broad terrace with covered lounging area in front of another fireplace as well as open lounging and dining spaces, a wet bar and a guest powder room. The views are amazing, with all of San Miguel and the distant mountains in front of you. From this terrace, you also enter the master bedroom, with queen bed, fireplace, flat-screen TV and a fabulous bathroom featuring a large marble-tile tub set in its own glass alcove with expansive views.
Down another grand staircase and you come to the guest quarters — a comfortable sitting room with a charming trompe-d'oeil scene through sunny French doors and two bedrooms, each with en-suite bathroom and two twin beds. The bedrooms both have their own fireplace, as does the sitting room. A wide terrace is also accessible from both bedrooms, with chairs for enjoying the sunset view. The terrace leads down a double staircase circling a wonderful stone fountain and cascading water feature into the lower garden, where there are still more lounging chairs and umbrellas in a Tuscan-style courtyard with adjacent powder room. The perfect spot for leisurely afternoon luncheons is found under an arbor, with seating for 12 around a great stone table. This outdoor dining area also features a gas BBQ, prep sink, ice machine and small fridge flanking a weeping water wall and small fountain pool, complete with gold fish.
Casa Corazon de Leon makes a perfect luxury retreat for one couple staying on the top floor, but it can easily accommodate two more couples or four other guests in the downstairs bedrooms as well. The villa has wireless high-speed Internet access, cable TV in the upstairs den (with Mexican and U.S. channels) as well as in 3 bedrooms and the kitchen (Mexican channels only), and phones in every room with intercom to the front door.
Josefina the maid comes Monday to Friday from 9 am to 3 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to noon. She can cook breakfast only, and she will also do personal laundry and ironing. A handyman, Lupe, is on site Monday thorugh Friday from 12 noon to 5 pm, and he can attend to your every need, as well as run errands. Candilario, the gardener, comes daily in the early mornings to keep all of the outdoor areas, gardens and potted plants in perfect shape. He also attends to to an outdoor cat who keeps the grounds free of pests.
NOTE: At the entrance to Casa Corazon de Leon, above the garage, is a small apartment with a long-term renter. Vacation guests might see this renter at the front door, but otherwise her apartment is separate from the main house. Near the long-term apartment is another studio room and bathroom. Renters of the main house have the option of adding this extra bedroom (with trundle bed) to their rental for a 7th person.
